With a focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, strengthening communities is our cause. At the Y, we believe that lasting personal and social change happens when we all work together. Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.

When you give to the Y, you are funding life-changing programs that help millions of children, adults and families in the United States and around the world to learn, grow and thrive.

Your support helps the Y deliver on our commitment:

  • To nurture the potential of youth through building confidence at camp, academic enrichment in safe afterschool programs, or foundational skills and values in our child care programs
  • To improve the nation’s health and well-being through combating obesity and chronic disease by providing the support and resources people need to make positive change
  • To give back and support our neighbors by empowering people with the resources to improve their lives and connect and contribute to the community, such as with job training, housing, newcomer services and opportunities to advocate for social change
  • To offer programs and services to children, adults and families who need financial assistance

Give Back

When you give to the Y, you continue to strengthen our community and move us all forward. As the nation's leading nonprofit for youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y uses your gift to make a meaningful and enduring impact right in your own neighborhood.

At the Y, no child, family or adult is turned away. We recognize that for communities to succeed, everyone must be given the opportunity to be healthy, confident, connected and secure.

100% of the gifts raised go towards our financial assistance program, the Spirit Campaign. Our Y awards the money they collect to children, families and individuals, in the community.

Community Partners Campaign

For more than 155 years, the YMCA has been a pioneering force in the United States and 120 years right here in Marion, Indiana; providing vital programs and services to the community. Our Grant County YMCA is the largest youth and family service organization in Marion; and last year provided more than $180,000 in financial aid to those who could not afford a YMCA membership. Part of the total financial aid also provided for child care and day camp financial aid totaling $83,585. The Y is the unparalleled cause for strengthening community because we are the community! We’re actively involved in meeting the needs of the community such as:

  • Opening our doors to all regardless of age, income, or background.
  • Giving families a healthy, safe place to socialize and grow.
  • Connecting resourcefully with key groups in the community including Boys & Girls Club, Marion Parks, the City of Marion, area schools, and dozens of other partners.
  • Addressing the child obesity issue by teaching children to make healthy and smarter life choices.

Your Grant County Y is uniquely qualified to continue impacting the community through its Christian Mission and Values. We are one of the 2,600 local YMCA associations that are making a difference across the U.S. The dedication of the staff, members, and volunteers confirms that the Y is poised to be a community leader by building strong kids, strong families, and a strong community.

We’d love for you to join us! By becoming a Community Partner, you are recognizing the impact this organization has on the local community. Learn to Swim Program

By partnering with Marion Community Schools, Dunhams, Wal-Mart, Meijer, Via Credit Union, The Marion Rotary Club, and members like you; we were able to teach over 300 children this past spring how to swim.

This program was established to ensure that every 2nd grader in the Marion School system was given the opportunity to learn to swim. On day one they go through a swim skills test. Through the week they are taught and encouraged to float, learn strokes, and how to have fun and be safe in the water.

With continued reports in the news about children and even adults drowning due to lack of swim knowledge, we at the Grant County Family Y are enabling the children of the community to be prepared and gain confidence when in the water. Boy Scouts

Many of the boys that we have come from single and low income families with an absent father. We have two brothers who are being taken care of by their grandmother or relative again with an absent father and mother. The boys in these situations have no opportunity to be a part of a group that offers skills that will help them develop independence in a safe and caring environment like boy scouts, and also to work with other boys on projects that earn them badges.

The boy scout summer camp is a week-long district event that helps them relate to other boys, and families, or father figures who will help them to be Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Thrifty, Cheerful, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. The cost of the camp prevents these low income families from participating.

Badges are costly, resources for projects are costly, transportation to 'go see it' events like Fire Stations, Games, Library, a restaurant - pizza making business cost, and basic tools to demonstrate how to use are also costly.

The Y Boy Scouting program, has received donations of resources from the community to curb the costs.

Boys from the Y CP program cannot afford to buy the uniforms - so we have created our own t-shirt; and vest which costs $15 to make them feel a part of their den or pack. We cannot afford to purchase badges - they cost too much.
